The potholes are horrific! And his announcement that we need to raise taxes to take care of all is laughable. First of all, the condition of the streets today is a direct reflection of Fahey-Suttle poor budgeting and neglect. Fahey didn't raise taxes or make other cuts, and the streets were never maintained at all. He never bonded new equipment on a rotational basis, so here we are with a fleet of old, unrepaired trucks, and a staff that has no adult supervision, so they don't order tires, parts, etc. It is so sad, and will only cost even more because of this neglect.

There was one winner and one loser in tonight's bowl game. Nebraska did an outstanding job and was a winner. On the other hand, Ben Nelson's ad, paid for by the Nebraska Democratic Party, was the real loser, not Arizona.

If you saw Suttle's news conference
he had the audacity to try to use these snowstorms and the pathetic response by the City of Omaha (under his leadership) as an excuse to again criticize NOT raising taxes for the last budget. He gave as examples the shortage of city mechanics (due to layoffs) for the lack of adequate equipment on the streets for this snow emergency, and lack of outside contractors. Of course he was flanked by his Democrat buddies including mayor-wannabe Ben Gray who loves all taxes.

Typically when the order to cut budgets and order layoff is sent down from the top, upper and middle management "circle the wagons" and pass the cuts on down to the worker-bees. As you know, that is S.O.P. for corporate America and has been honed to a fine art in governments of all levels. Our amateurish local news should ask Suttle why his administration would layoff city mechanics going into the winter season. Such a move demonstrates poor judgement. Furthermore, I bet the collective "cost savings" for those layed-off mechanics was WIPED OUT by the ridiculous salaries Suttle awarded to certain members of his administration. Had he paid his toadies a reasonable salary he could've save the citizens of Omaha much of the stress and hassle he's now complaining about.

The City's response to this snowstorm was/is pathetic. The blizzard of 1975 occurred over the course of 12-18 hours and the city's performance was better than this last weeks. This most recent storm occurred over 4 DAYS!!!!! Why wasn't Omaha able to keep up? In 1975 I'm guessing the percentage of regular citizens who owned "4-wheel drive" or front-wheel drive vehicles compared to today's SUV's and pickup trucks and front-wheel drive vehicles was much smaller, yet so many more people remained trapped recently (and some still are trapped in their homes and neighborhoods) probably than in 1975.

Now the Mayor has promised to propose new taxes in an expedited fashion early in 2010. He blames all of his failures on his opponents. Maybe it's time for that recall after all? The local news media is so impotent I want to scream.

It is unimaginable, given the pro-pensity for intermittent serious snowstorms in Omaha, and the likely budget overruns resulting, given budgeting for "average" winter snowfall, that there is not a contingency emergency plan for these situations! Is Mayor LaPetomayne (for "Blazing Saddles" afficionados!) really the first Mayor to be confronted with such a problem??? He apparently thinks so! To hear the whining from the city administrators that if there just weren't stalled cars or cars parked on the streets in residential areas, everything would be just fine! Again, apparently this was never the case during prior snow storms! The residential snow removal plan has been haphazard, and often incompetent, regardless of what spokesperson Ron G. babbles to the media!

P.S. Perhaps Paul Kratz should talk to the Mayor before announcing the sidewalk removal ordinance would be strictly enforced!!!

What evidence do you have that even if I was a firefighter that these postings were on city computers, on city time. Do you have an inside source from the city's IT people. If you have evidence of wrong doing should you not report it to the Fire Chief. Whether you want to believe it or not Bob Smith has never posted or authored any comments on a city computer or on city time. Who ever your source is, you better find another one who knows what they are talking about.

The problem with North Dakota is that Hoeven is not a conservative. He is an ex democrat who has actually given money to Dorgan in the past. The North Dakota GOP is splintering right now because the conservatives are being pushed out. If Hoeven runs and the conservative base is out (the TEA Partiers as well) I don't see how he can win. His past will come back to haunt him. The conservative candidate running is Paul Sorum. Great ideas that can make a difference. Conservatives should back him and not the rino John Hoeven.

Thugs are those who hide behind anonymous postings. Thugs are those who lie in order to create change that benefits no one. Thugs are those who seek to ruin 50+ years of tradition that not only was tradition in Omaha, but was tradition nation wide. Firefighters asking the Omaha community to donate to the MDA on or off the street was beneficial to everyone involved. It created wonderful apparatus displays and the oppurtunity for the OFD to interact with the public in a non-emerency setting. A place for question and answer sessions. It also benefitted a wonderful charity. If this was so wrong why did the city of Omaha allow this pratice for 50+ years. Why now is this so wrong. The city council wasted too much precious time and effort on this. Every Fire Truck that you saw collecting was in its response territory and was in service, available to take its assigned emergency runs. No one was ever hurt or made to wait or suffer for this. If it is wrong to collect for the MDA, then also wouldn't it be wrong to have to be forced to take a fire truck to a different fire station with firefighters in uniform on duty toi have to listen to a sales pitch for the United Way. Why is it wrong to collect for one charity and not another. Only thugs hide behind anonymous postings.

Have you ever thought of telling your feelings to the fire chief in person. It is one thing to hide behind a blog and another to express your baseless opinions directly to a person's face. Can you name one example of incompetence? Many of Omaha Fire Department Chief's have had excellant working relationships with the union, why is that so hard for you understand. Senator Reid must be put out of office, along with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. If they want this, they should pay for it, not us!
Some of our representatives are turning a deaf ear even while we are protesting on this bill. This is why I am not donating, I am just about giving up on Congress. In the future, if this passes, we will be regretting the consequences. There is a resistance out there, but Ben doesn't like it, he even said so in the news conference he had this morning. I am thankful for the many talk show hosts that are rallying behind us as American citizens, to not let this thing pass.

The future of our country is at stake, but some of the representatives do not see this. Our country is heading for disaster with all the things that this administration did, there is a lot of damage done to our democracy. We are heading for socialism, and I fear that we will be like Europe with the government in control of everything.
Citizens of Europe hardly have any rights is this where the administration want us to be?
This is my opinion. I vented to long on this, but wanted to be heard.
I feel like this background is the right one for it represents Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and all the others that support this fiasco, want to shove this bill at us!

NO more property taxes for me. Ours already went up over $200 a year the police and fire can come up with the money.I am tired of paying for their benefits. Also what about the 15% wage increase the CIR court ordered for them in 2008 when do they get that money? No one has asked or answered the question. I bet soon.
