Greg Schleppenbach, representing the Nebraska Catholic Conference forwarded the following letter to us. Much of the content of this is or will be shared in local parish churches across Nebraska. The deals with the Obama/Sebelius healthcare edict on contraception coverage and also clarifies some information regarding the Susan Komen decision to defund Planned Parenthood. To say that the president has really stepped into it is certainly an under-representation of the fact. Catholic and other religious-affiliated organizations across the country are enraged at the 'contraceptive' policy promoted by this president and his fallen-away Catholic Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius (excuse our dispersion, but she probably sleeps with fallen-away Catholic Nancy Pelosi when in San Francisco).
The policies of this anti-Catholic, anti-religious, pro-Muslim, anti-traditional marriage administration have already caused Catholic-run adoption agencies to close their doors. The president and his administration are now basically saying follow my political dictates against your religious tenets, beliefs, and conscience or close down. Where this dispute will end up is uncertain, but, you can bet that the decision is not going to be forgot, that it will escalate in discussion as November 6, approaches and that it will cost the president votes, and hopefully his presidency.
With that said, one shouldn't hold the leadership of the Catholic Church blameless. It has need for its own mea culpa. This decision and Obamacare's existence are partially due to the church's 'social justice' mentality which abetted and allowed Obamacare to come into existence along with the now realized unintended consequences. IT IS PARTIALLY BECAUSE THE CATHOLIC CHURCHES AND MOST OTHER CHURCHES HAVE DECIDED THAT IT'S GOVERNMENT'S JOB TO DO WHAT HAS BEEN TRADITIONALLY THEIR JOB--TO TAKE CARE OF THE POOR AND HUNGRY AND TO HELP THOSE IN NEED.
Hopefully, the Catholic Church and other religious related organizations will simply follow their consciences and say they will not comply and will simply terminate their healthcare coverage rather than comply.
This is not a matter of politics, it is a matter of religious freedom, it's a matter of government over-reach and a matter of violation of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution (as well as the Tenth Amendment). If this regulation, if this law is not over-turned it will be just another step toward the end of religious freedom in our country.
Here is the letter from Schleppenbach: (while the letter notes the support of Nebraska's two senators for the "Respect for Rights of Conscience Act", we'd be remiss to not point out that it Nebraska's Judas Senator Ben Nelson that brought the country and the Catholic Churh's and other religious organizations to this point.)
