One of the most outrageous leaps of faith we've ever heard is the argument from Omaha City Council Members Ben Gray and Franklin Thompson that by renaming the North Freeway as the Martin Luther King Jr. Freeway would aid in halting gang/gun violence. According to the Douglas Street Rag:
"Thompson said it would serve as a reminder of King's nonviolent approach to solving problems. Symbolism is important, he said, along with tougher laws, intervention and prevention.
"It may not be a magic pill, but what we're trying to put attention on is what Martin Luther King was about", Thompson said.""
We also find Gray's comments interesting. Again, according to the Douglas Street Rag:
"Gray said several Omaha organizations support the naming, and he has been assured that Omaha-area elected boards would provide resolutions of support."
Well, of course they will. Otherwise you can bet Ben will resort to his normal tact of calling anyone or any group that disagrees with him RACIST!
