When Will The Boot Drop?

We wonder when the Mayor will bring the citizens the next deal of the century. You know, the Fire Union Contract? A couple of weeks ago we gave you the demographics on where the police department members lived and paid taxes (see: Monday, August 16, 2010 74% of Omaha's Finest Don't Even Pay City Property Taxes!) Although the percentages are quite similar, just to be fair we thought we'd give you the same data on the fire department.
  • 228 or 34% live and pay property taxes in the City of Omaha

    • 115 or 17% live within the City of Omaha wheel tax zone. To be clear, all firemen and policemen and city employees pay the wheel tax as part of their employment.

    • 272 or 41% live in another county

    • 51 or 8% live in another state

Gosh, given these results one would think that Mayor Suttle might want to get his lackeys Patrick Star Jerram, TAX AND SPEND THOMAS (McGoo) MULLIGAN, Ben I've-never-seen-a-tax-that I don't like Gray and Garry dumb-as-a-tack Gernandt to introduce a bill requiring city employees to be residents of the city. That way they could all vote for the folks they already own and our delusional mayor could sell it as an economic development program to get more homes sold within the city thus increasing property values!

If you would actually read an OFD contract you would see that there is a clause in the contract that as soon as all city unions agree to have to require residence in the city of Omaha, Local385 will be bound by that requirement also. All city employees pay the wheel tax even if they do not live in Omaha or the wheel tax zone. Please it would nice if you really could be objective and report facts.

If the former commentor had read the entry, he might have noticed it read, "To be clear, all firemen and policemen and city employees pay the wheel tax as part of their employment." Looks like you got your fact right OC.
