Does this sound familiar to those who were fortunate enough to study the Revolutionary War? TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION.Those of us that live outside Omaha by choice are now being asked to pay for the lack of upkeep to the streets and services in Omaha? We have the privilege of driving out of Sarpy County where streets are cleared of snow in to the massive snow drifts that remain for days in the "City".
We have no vote on the Mayor or the City Council, yet they are allowed to put a mandatory tax on us? Is that the way this country was established? Well, the answer is no. It is unfair and inane to say the least.
Are they asking businesses to collect the tax from us or is the burden on the area in which we live? Well my thoughts are, if it is asked of the businesses, they should just say NO. The same for government entities if they are asked to collect the tax.
As of now, I am saying NO to the hierarchy of Omaha and I will not pay the tax. Take me to jail, put a lien on my house, impound my automobile if you must, but I WILL NOT pay to drive into the "City". I will fight this to the Supreme Court if need be. I will not be governed by outsiders!!!
All the people who are affected by this tax should make sure no sales tax monies, restaurant tax or other entertainment tax stays within the "City". They are many fine restaurants, movies theatres and shopping in the surrounding areas. I will never spend another dime within the city limits and all of you should do the same.
Oh wait, they could then come up with a tax to impose upon you when you drive out of the "City". Stand firm on this, people and JUST SAY NO! Big Business in Omaha, what would your work force be if you only have workers who live within the city limits?
Wake up out there and I repeat.....JUST SAY NO Mr. Suttle and the Omaha City Council.

Are you using Omaha streets? Then you shouldn't complain so loud about helping to pay for them. Omaha will be a better place if you promise to never set foot in it.
I tell you what's even more disturbing is Suttle's comments on how he is tired of Omaha tax dollars feeding kids out west!!!!
And now Brad Ashford wants to combine the city and county!!!!
Rachel's points are very valid and hit straight to the core, tax without representation. It's good to see people willing to speak up against this kind of decision (as opposed to people that spend time hurling personal insults on blogs).
I already pay to have the roads maintained in my community and the city of Omaha benefits greatly from the large corporation I work for in Omaha. I do not believe that the wheel tax is the answer and believe it could has the potential to become a very large, out-of-control snowball of political competition. Are surrounding communities going to follow suit? I too, am unhappy about having no say, no voting rights, no right to sign a recall petition. Sadly, our only voices will be heard on this type of forum.
