"I Do" Legislation

Senator Mark Christensen wants to inflict more government into our lives by raising the cost of a marriage license if you and your sweetie fail to take a class of at least 8 hours from an approved provider. If you don't it will cost you more to get married-$65. If you do and present the proper paperwork, you get by for just $15.

Now why we agree that pre-marital counseling is a good idea we think Senator Christensen's bill, LB19 is just more government intrusion in our lives. This will require more folks to go through more hassles and will obviously require more expenditure of state and local dollars to implement the approval and record keeping process.

This is just another good example of government meddling in our lives and elected officials with too much time on their hands.

The funniest part is that he calls the class a voluntary marriage education class. Since when is something voluntary if you get punished financially for not doing it?!
